Work Life Balance
With technological advancement and specially in last 2 years post Pandemic outbreak the line between work and home has blurred.
When kid I remember there were no mobile and Internet was not prevalent and hence once home people had time for Family and when at work they were fully focused on work, but slowly and steadily this lines started vanishing, and now we are on work emails even at mid night and on personal Whatsapp even during office hours.
WE think, we can multi task, however it’s impossible for a normal human brain to multi task or multi focus, as a result we are neither 100% in work nor 100% at home when we should be.
BURN-OUT is an IN THING now a days, Work Life balance trainings are conducted, but these trainings will not help us if we don’t help ourselves.
We should have a simple funda in life “When at work, focus on work and family resides at home and not even in our mind, and when at home vice versa” (Disclaimer: Urgent/Emergency situations both of work and home needs to be taken care of irrespective to time or day).
Simple tips to bring back this divide:
1. Have personal and official Mobile numbers separate
2. Have personal and official Whatsapp separate
3. Have different email apps on mobile for personal email and official email
4. When Working from Home, have a separate area marked for work, post office hours don’t go to that area of the house (may a small office setup with Table and chair)
5. Discourage personal phone calls in office as much as possible
6. Discourage official calls post office hours
7. Don’t send emails post office hours, or pre office hours or on holidays (if you work late for some reason, try to save mail in draft and send out in office hours)
8. Kill your urge to reply to official email post office hours if not urgent
9. Lead by example- Superiors and suborninates along with peers will follow suit.
